UPMA INGREDIENTS
- 3 tbsp Desi Ghee
- 1.5 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1.5 tsp Urad Daal
- 2 Curry Leaf Strands
- 1/2 Onion, diced
- 1/2 Tomato, diced
- 2 Green Chillies, chopped (depending on spice tolerance)
- 3/4 cup Semolina (Suji)
- 1.5 cups of water
- Salt to taste
- Lemon to taste
- Coriander for garnish
UPMA METHOD
Prep Time: 15-20 minutes | Cook Time: 8-9 minutes per batch
STEP 1: Heat 3 tablespoons of ghee in a pan over medium heat, add 1.5 teaspoons of mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then, add 1.5 teaspoons of urad dal and sauté until golden brown, followed by 2 curry leaf strands.
STEP 2: Add diced onion and sauté until translucent. Add diced tomato and chopped green chilies, cooking until the tomatoes soften.
STEP 3: Pour 1.5 cups of water into the pan, add salt to taste, and bring to a boil. Gradually add 3/4 cup of roasted semolina, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Lower the heat, cover, and cook for 3-4 minutes.
STEP 4: Turn off the heat, let it rest for a minute, then add lemon juice and garnish with coriander. Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
